Jazz Musicican Jon Barnes join sponsor Monster Cable CEO Noel Lee, along with other celebs like Car Collector and Host Jay Leno, NBC Tonight show for a record turnout and sales at the Pebble Beach, Concours D’ Elegance (Aug. 16-18) for Monterey Auto Week.
“This has been an amazing week here in Pebble Beach,” said Barnes, who attended several VIP functions and luncheons at the Concours D’ Elegance, including the lunch and dinners with the Lamborghini Club of America. “I’ve never seen so many rare cars and beautiful hydbrids.”
After signing autographs, he played his trumpet for small and large groups at the world renown auto event on California’s CentralCoast.
Published reports show Monterey Car Week attracted a record crowd and a new record in sales at the world auction at nearly $302 million in rare vehicles.
And speaking of rare Barnes brought his one-of-a-kind daCarbo Trumpet (made of carbon- fiber materials) and play a few notes for dignitaries. He also was invited inside the exclusive lawn area at the exhibits of like Ferrari, Bugatti, Laraki and Mercedes-Benz for a few more photos with owners of each brand.
The new hybrid Porsche 918, which has two electric motors, is also made of carbon fiber materials to make it lighter. On top and at the back of the hybrid, is the catalytic converter and exhausts, usually found under the car. It has an aerodynamic body design and according to owner Frank Wallister, it can go zero to 60 MPH in 2.7 seconds.
There were a half-dozen auction companies according to the Los Angeles Times that sold 726 cars during the annual weeklong gathering of car fans in Monterey, Carmel, and Pebble Beach. It amounts to a jump of nearly 15 percent more than last year, according to Hagerty Insurance, which tracks classic car values.
According to those people keeping track RM Auctions sold a rare 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spider for $27.5 million on Saturday night making it the most expensive car to hit the road ever sold at an auction.
Monterey Auto Week
The Concours D’ Elegance, Pebble Beach is a spectacular annual event where exhibits of some of the most unusual, eye-popping pre-war and post-war cars, along with the latest in concept car designs. It is a long tradition going back more than a half century, the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. It is where the world’s collector cars meet and compete.
Only the 175 best collector cars in the world roll on to the legendary 18th fairway at Pebble Beach and only a few of them will get recognition for style, technical merit and historical accuracy of their vehicles. It is one of the most spectacular auto shows around the globe.

Barnes has also produced a CD celebrating Miles Davis music. The cover features Barnes and a Miles Davis commemorative United States Postal Service Stamp.
