Two names have become synonymous recently in the Jazz music world – Music genius Jon Barnes and daCarbo. This past weekend both were one of the same at daCarbo Jazz Festival held this weekend (July 5-7 in Switzerland and Copenhagen.

Barnes will be the talk of the town in the music industry when he returns to Los Angeles this week, not just for his music, but for his milestone with Miles Davis and the celebration of his music now on an official USPS and French stamp. Barnes is featured on a new limited edition of a U.S. Postal stamp celebrating Miles Davis music and his accomplishments.

The stamps, the CD music featuring the stamp and music celebration will be collectibles, too. According to the US Postal Service, “U.S. Postal Service is partnering with La Poste of France to celebrate the musical talents of Edith Piaf and Miles Davis with the Miles Davis/Edith Piaf (Forever®) stamps.

There’s no question that music is an international language and these stamps celebrate a one of the best conversations between the U.S. and France. Edith Piaf (1915-1963) is one of the few French popular singers to become a household name in the U.S.; the great American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis (1926-1991) is beloved in France, where he performed frequently and was made a Chevalier in the Legion of Honor. He was also awarded the Grande Médaille de Vermeil by the city of Paris (the equivalent of making him an honorary citizen).

Currently, Barnes is returning home after a world-wind European tour, sponsored by Monster Cable at the daCarbo Jazz Festival with Arturo Sandoval, lead vocalist, Skip Martin of Kool and the Gang. and “A Tribute to Louis Armstrong Jon Barnes von Earth Wind & Fire LIVE erleben in Bärnbach” event.

The tour was also being filmed as a documentary. Barnes has played, tour and or recorded with other music giants such as Justin Bieber, Arturo Sandoval, Gerald McCaulley, Billy Preston, Gerald Albright, Temptations, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, Tom Scott, Chris Botti, Gary Bias, Brenda Russell, Little Anthony and the Imperials to name a few. He has managed to create his own music curriculum, Kids Music, which allows children to learn about music while simulating the playground experience.

Jon Barnes, a world class musician, who played in the movie “Dirty Dancing”, is also a writer, composer, producer, businessman and teacher.

Barnes shows his passion in every performance, especially on the trumpet. He took music lessons at a very early age and was influence by his mother and church, while growing up in Baltimore. He now lives in Apple Valley, CA and has four children. Barnes said he enjoys teaching his grandchildren music.

Before his global tour, this writer caught up with Barnes at the 6th Annual Singleton Entertainment Music Awards, an event honoring music executives. It was a rare appearance on the red carpet and Barnes brought along his one-of-a-kind, Swiss-made, daCarbo trumpet. During the interview he played a few notes on the red carpet. The noisy, Beverly Hills, outdoor event, became more quiet as Barnes squeeze out some more higher and jazzier tunes. He even caught the attention of Singers Kuba Ka, from Poland with Singer, Vicki Lizzi and Buddy Princeton & the Incorruptibles walking up to the H.O.M.E. (House Of Music and Entertainment.

“This is a new trumpet,” Barnes said with his usual passion. “It is a carbon fiber bell, which is lighter and has a smoother sound,” Barnes explained. The daCarbo trumpet bell is made entirely of carbon fiber and the trumpet body is a Spiri Vario. The carbon fiber bell can be changed with a regular brass bell designed for a Spiri Vario. It’s lighter and has a unique sound.

Although his principal instruments are trumpet and piano, Barnes also plays all and teaches all instruments and was inspired by Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis to name a few music legends. For more about Jon Barnes and his music visit:
